In November 2020, Instagram launched a new "Guide" feature on its platform, initially for raising further awareness on Mental Health and Well-Being Matters during the Coronavirus Pandemic and to help people who were struggle with mental health related issues. The feature was limited to a few Health & Well-Being Content Creators and Businesses . The Mental Health Guides were made available for users to view via the Explore Tab.
Instagram has now enabled full access for all users (i.e. Content Creators, Businesses and Influencers), to create their own Guides via the Plus + Symbol which is located on the top right hand side of users profiles.
It goes without saying that Instagram has been proactively innovative this year in enhancing it's platform and creating new accessible Business and Content Creation tools, more so in response to the current pandemic crisis.
Also with the intended purpose to help Businesses and Causes impacted by the Pandemic.
This guides feature from what it appears, it intended to help Content Creators, Influencers and Businesses with more exposures of their brand, products and services.
This new feature could potentially help Local Business Owners and Attractions to draw more attention to their businesses and areas. These tools could help you as a local business to attract people within your area. Nowadays, with the pandemic people are most likely to shop and travel locally due to limitations in travel. As a Content Creator or Influencer it is also great opportunity to attract your ideal clients, to raise further awareness about your brand.
Guide Features consists of the following three tabs;
1. Places - Recommend Places in your city and beyond
2. Products - Recommend your favorite products
3. Post- Recommend posts that you create
How to recommend Posts Guide Illustration
You have the option to recommend your or other peoples favorite places (local and beyond), products and posts. It a new innovative way to share and consume new and old with your audience, in a Blog Post format. If you have been creating micro series content on the platform it will be easier to compile the information into an interactive guide consisting of curated content.
Benefits of the Guide Feature:
1. It appears IG wants users to remain on its platform. What this means for you is rather than referring your audience to read your Blog Posts on another platform, they can remain on IG. This means that a series of yours posts (old and new) could be seen more.
2. The opportunity to recommend/promote your favorite local small business or places of interest
3. Opportunity to re-share evergreen content again.
4. Users can also save recommend Guides, which gives the potential to boost your old/new posts.
5. You can also use guides to promote seasonal products/service deals.
6. Great Feature for Influencer Marketing and Partnership Opportunities.
7. You have the opportunity to compile your old posts into a curated Guide.
8. Individual Posts (Pictures) in the Guide, link back IG Posts.
9. You can add your Guide to your Stories.
10. You can create a series of Micro Posts which then become a full IG Blog Post.
