SOCIAL MEDIA TRENDS & DECLINE OF FACEBOOK/TWITTER FOR MARKETERS TIPS!!!

In today's Live Youtube Video, I covered the key trends of Social Media Marketing including the decline of Facebook/Twitter usage by Marketers. The reason why they have been motivated to start refocusing their resources om other Social Media and Business Platforms. Credit goes to Social Media Examiner for the extensive research they completed over a 5 year period from 2015-2018 (including some trends in 2019).

The significant changes in trends are worthwhile paying attention to as it helps you as an Entrepreneur and Business Owner to determine, which platforms to best maximise your resources on; including time and financial resources.

Areas explored
1. The decline of Facebook and Twitter as a preferred platform for Marketers.
  • For Facebook, it's been harder for Marketers to gain from in terms of the decline in organic reach, following changes implemented by the Platform owners. It has also become more competitive and complicated to run Ads on the platform.
  • A decline in Live Facebook Video Creation by Marketers, this might be attributed to a decrease in watch time impacted by the inability to reach a wider audience.
  • The percentages below are based out of a 100% Score of the Global Marketers in different industries who were surveyed by Social Media Examiner. For full details and to obtain their report do visit their website here.
Facebook percentages decreased from
  • 52% out of 100% in 2015,
  • 55% in 2016,
  • 62% in 2017,
  •  67% in 2018,
  • 61% in 2019, which was an 8% decrease in being a preferred platform for Marketers.
For Twitter, the engagement in
  • 13% in 2015
  • 12% in 2016
  • 9% in 2017
  • 5% in 2018
  • 4% in 2019
 2. The shift to Instagram and Linkedin as the main platform for Marketers.
Instagram
  • 2% in 2015
  • 4% in 2016
  • 7% in 2017
  • 10% in 2018
  • 14% in 2019
Linkedin
  • 21% in 2015
  • 18% in 2016
  • 16% in 2017
  • 12% in 2018
  • 14% in 2019

Live Video engagement and usage has decreased on Facebook. It has become part of the toolbox for Video Content Marketing Strategy for Marketers. Live Video continues to be useful for Influencers, Millenials, Rising Politician, for Charitable Causes (Donations) and for Q&A opportunities.

Additional Topics (which were not a part of the Research completed by Social Media Examiner):
1. Youtube continues to be a powerful platform and people go there for a specific reason. For instance for educational purposes to learn more about a specific topic.

2. Do look out for further developments on Pinterest as a being another go-to option for Marketers. It is much easier on there to Advertise than Facebook. I have been testing out this platform as an alternative resource for Ads Management and engagement with a specific Niche Market.  I have not started to use this platform yet for content creation, as I would on Instagram.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO FOR YOU AN A BUSINESS OWNER AND ENTREPRENEUR TO KNOW ABOUT THESE TRENDS:
  1. Diversify your Social Media portfolio, don’t rely on only one platform.
  2. Should you move with the current or against it? Although people are moving to Instagram and LinkedIn a similar thing could happen as it did to Facebook and Twitter. Could become more saturated, competitive
  3. Know how to maximise on each platform without jeopardizing your brand personality.
