In this blog post, I want to explore with you whether manually sending Private Messages (PM's) on Social Media to Social and Professional Network Contacts is most cost effective way to gain prospective clients?

1. Have you sent private messages before to someone you connected via Social Media Platforms or LinkedIn with the hopes of gaining a new customer?

2. Do you send private messages on a regular basis as part of your Sales and Marketing Strategy? 

3. What is the outcome you have achieved so far as a result? Have you gained new customers as a result of connecting with random people via Private Messenger?

Now and again I like to explore this topic, as I often receive private messages from people with similar products and service offers. Most of the messages I receive are often copy and paste type of messages. Also offers from people within the Network Marketing Industry or Brands (Startup Companies looking to connect with Social Media Influencers). The main focus in this blog post will be on Networking Marketing and similar Niche Markets.


MYTHS: Some of the biggest myths about how to market/sell products and services are as follows; 

1.You will make money instantaneously, as a result of being involved in the new Networking Marketing opportunity you have joined.  

2. All you have to do is copy and pasted messages to your Social and Professional Network contacts. Messages inviting them to watch a video will gain new clients. 

3. You do not need to do the work yourself such as branding your personality, as everything has already been created for you.


SOME TRUTHS AND REALITY ABOUT PROSPECTING NEW CLIENTS: 

1. The company you are marketing for has already established themselves and developed a recognizable brand over the years. You are basically a Freelance Marketer working for free and on a commission basis. You are marketing for a company that is already established in most cases for free with the added costs of your own time, possible small investment in the products and paid advertisement. 

In most cases, you might now have developed your own brand personality. Something to keep in mind is that people buy into you, before they buy into products and services. 

2. You are not the first person and possibly the 100th person to approach your prospective client with a similar copy and pasted message and offer. They have seen similar messages hundreds of time and become mentally switched off/turned off. 

3. It takes time, patience and money to achieve results that you are looking for. These results are not independent of you making best efforts to create your own brand personality. One of the most essential keys and components also being, creating content which informs, educates and adds value for your audience and prospective clients.

4. There is only a few people who are able to benefit financially as a result of connecting with people via PM's. These people are mostly skilled in their Niche Market, well known and have developed their own brand personality overtime. They are also unlikely to be sending you private messages themselves to opt into their offers, unless if they have implemented an automated marketing system process such as Bots and ADs as part of their  sale funnel process. 


Marketing Tips: 

1. If you are going to offer ready made products and services, it is beneficial to have a basic understanding of Attraction Marketing, Branding, Client Persona Development and Paid Advertisement Strategies (Google Ads and Facebook Ads for instance). 

2. Have a strategy from the beginning to finish with your ideal customer in mind. 

3. Sending Private Messages via Social Media: If you are going to send private messages to random people. At least dedicate sometime in getting to know each person before you inbox them by reviewing their profile description, their timeline content and website links. 

  • This will save you time from sending private messages to random people who are not your ideal prospective clients. 
  • It will help you to identify whether that person is truly in need of your services/products or not. If they are, you have the opportunity to create a special personalized offer based on what you have assessed is their actual need. Or problem they are looking for you to help them solve. 
  • Do not jump in immediately by sending your links of products and services (this includes your Facebook Group Links), as it comes across being self-serving. People want to know that the person who has reached our cares for them. 
  • It is worth investing your time in getting to know 1-5 people really well, rather than sending a 100 messages to random people with the hopes that they will opt into your offer. The 1-5 people could potential become your long term clients and advocates who voluntarily share information about your services and products to people they know.  

3. Why you? What makes you different and unique from the 100th person who has sent a similar message to your ideal prospective client?

4. Develop an Automated Sales Funnel System and process, using landing pages and email marketing systems, linked to paid advertisement. You have to pay to play on some level in order to raise further awareness about your personal brand, product and services. 

Paid Advertisements when implemented correctly also saves you time, money and protects your brand reputation. 

5. Focus on becoming a knowledge authority in your industry, rather than coming across as someone who has an urgent need to make quick money.
