What is a Creative Entrepreneur & What Do They Do?

A Creative Entrepreneur is someone who makes a living out of your innate creative skills and abilities inclusive of their lifestyle hobbies and life passions.

This blog post is dedicated to you especially if you can relate to the following;

§  You are someone who does has not had the opportunity yet to embrace your creativity, due to personal and professional career responsibilities taking over. Thereby, minimising your capability to fully utilise your pre-existing creative skills.

§  You might be someone who has been stuck in a career, you are no longer passionate about and seeking to find independent ways where you can earn a living from your best efforts.

§  You could have a lifestyle hobby which you have been passionate about, which brings you internal fulfilment but have not found ways to earn a living from it

§  Finally, you could be a University Student who have chosen a Degree which you are not truly connected with and are doing it either as a family obligation or to eventually earn a living from.

The concept of Creative Entrepreneurship is not new, nor its existent. There are millions of people who have been earning a living based on their skill and abilities. The only difference now is that the internet and being online has enable more people to shy and showcase their talents on a global scale. It has also progressively overtime, become culturally and socially acceptable for most people to pursue and maximise on their innate abilities rather than following traditional means of earning a living.

The word itself Creative Entrepreneur does not limit you to one specific specialist area, or force you to feel as though you have to prescribe to a default category: for instance, becoming a Coach or Speaker. It enables you to embrace all aspects of your creativity abilities, without needing to be apologetic. It also enables you to easily transform and innovate as people’s needs and economy changes.

Basically, you are a creator, who is not daunted by constant change and see changes in economy as an opportunity to help people solve the problems they are being confronted by.

As a Creative Entrepreneur long story short, you create something for public consumption, whether it is a free or paid service.
You trade off your intellectual abilities and skills

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF CREATIVE ENTREPRENEURSHIP?
I will mainly focus on the Digital Nomad creative entrepreneurship opportunities, as these are based on my own personal experience and creativity skills I have embraced. Also based on the Creative Communities, which I belong to in the Digital Nomad World (Lifestyle, Social and Digital Marketing)

Examples of Creative Entrepreneurs; Writer (Content Creator), Photographer, Video Editor, Vlogger and Blogger, Speaker (Thought Leader/Motivational Speaker), Podcasting, Coaching, IT Innovators and Designers. There are a lot more Creative Entrepreneurship skills, which may fall in line with your core values, interest, and passions in life.
Some Creative Entrepreneur start their own businesses, while others prefer Solo Entrepreneurship Ventures with minimal responsibilities.

MY BACKGROUND AND WHAT MOTIVATED TO EMBRACE CREATIVE ENTREPRENEURSHIP:

My personal journey and experience of becoming a Creative Entrepreneur may resonate with you and hopefully enable you to feel more confident in embracing your natural talents.
I started creating content as teenager in the format of poems and creative existential thoughts. It was a hobby then and used as a cathartic experience to help ease teenage angst and existential crisis.

I continued writing as a personal lifestyle hobby and during my career. Including sharing my lifestyle and travel experiences through vlogging and blogging digital mediums. It took me a while to embrace video recording due to fear of judgement for making mistakes including how I looked and sounded.

Some of my blogging and vlogging has pertained challenging life experiences such as coping with and overcoming Mental Health related conditions such as Anxiety, Panic Disorder, Bipolar and Agoraphobia all connected to post traumatic stress disorder and hormonal imbalance caused by having an Underactive Thyroid. I’ve also shared well-being challenges of living with Fibromyalgia and healing process.

Cultural this is not the norm for me, as my surrounding were not filled with people who share their personal life experiences publicly. It also took a while to let go off my cultural and social norm expectations, which were imbedded in my head.

Aside from my personal lifestyle matters, I also share my self-taught knowledge and professional skills that I have acquired throughout my career and personal development. I was in a Leadership and Management roles for most of my full-time career. In supervisory and mentoring roles, for teams I was assigned to. Also led in Strategic and Operational Project Management roles, chairing of meetings and seminars.

I hope by sharing my experience you can can resonate with my journey and experience. It took me a long while to acknowledge and credit myself for my skill and abilities. This was partially due to being a perfectionist and someone who was too self-critical and prone to self sabotage tendencies. I was also limited mostly by what other people would think, if I chose to step out step out of my and their comfort zone.

You will start to shine internally when you let go off everything that has held you back so far. It is your life and you only have one life to live.
It is better to have lived the life you had imagined for yourself, rather than to live your life on behalf of someone else.

Most of us spend a lifetime, trying to identify with who we are through others and the external world. We do not focus on the internal; the root core of who we are, independent of external factors. Without external validation there is fear of falling into an endless orbit. The reality is that your endless orbit is a place where you will find yourself and start to rise again.
You may have spent a significant amount of time doubting our capabilities and abilities, due to self-limiting beliefs, self-sabotage and fear of others peoples judgement.

Creative Entrepreneurship is about letting go off everything that has held you back, it is about embracing everything about you, including what you judge as your flaws. This is what makes you unique and talented in your own right.
Once you embrace this  type of Lifestyle (that is if it is something you are truly connected with and not doing it just because it is a “new trend”)

  • Do not wait for approval, or acknowledgement from anyone
  • You are not limited by the number of followers or likes you receive
  • You create from a place of vision, passion and purposeful intention
  • You create because you want to truly contribute to adding value to something greater beyond money.
  • You embrace this type of lifestyle knowing that money is not a necessity and its only a vehicle to help move forward in fulfilling your Life Vision. You realise that money is something that will help you to contribute to greater causes and it is not something that will bring you happiness. Even if you appreciate finer things in life, you do so in knowing that those moments are fleeting. Materialistic things come and go.
  • You do it because you also come from a place of abundance and gratitude where the most fulfilling thing is seeing joy in other people eye’s or in helping people to solve issues which pain them the most.
  • You also do it as a lifestyle hobby where you spend endless night creating, without gaining any financial rewards or credits for all your hard word.
  • You do it not because you want to gain credit or recognition for your work; you do it because you love it. By doing so you are most likely to eventually gainfully receive rewards and financial benefits.
Creative from a space of something that you are truly connected with and not just to please other people. When you do so your Creative Entrepreneurship venture can last a lifetime and become part of what you enjoy doing.

EXPECTATIONS YOU MAY HAVE WHEN YOU START YOUR CREATIVE ENTREPRENEURSHIP JOURNEY

1. You might initially believe that is it easy and a glamorous lifestyle based on what you have seen on Social Media. Only to realise that it takes endless hours of working behind the scenes and being proactive in actualising your greatest potential.

2. You may expect Social Media to be your main platforms and end goal for earning income without having to diversifying your creative portfolio and opportunities.

3. That when you jump on a trend it will set up financially for a lifetime, without need to put in much effort. The truth of the matter is trends pass, just as they came, what remains constant is you.

4.  That everyone will love your ideas and products when you share them. Only to feel let down when they do not.

5. You may expect to gain immediate, or constant flow of income just as soon as you started, without maintaining any form of consistency or best effort. Only you will find yourself feeling demoralised, self-critical as though you have failed in life. When the actual truth is that it takes time to see results.

6.      You might expect that you will become popular and liked by everyone. Only to realise that not everyone will want you to succeed. That some people will love for you to fail, in order to fulfil their own expectations of you, or their own personal fears.

THE REALITY OF CREATIVE ENTREPRENEURSHIP:
1. It can become a fun adventure when you let go off most of your self-limiting beliefs inclusive of expectations from others.

2. It can eventually become financially rewarding, when you have earned the right and trust to be paid by others. Not when you expect to receive financial rewards.

3.  It is world where nothing stays constant and things are forever changing. You must love change and being innovative. You do not see change, as a barrier, or limitation of your creative abilities.

4.  You will fall in love with being a creator, especially through practice and falling forward many times over. You will look back on your progress and feel very pleased for starting in the first place.

5.      You will reach a place of self-love and acceptance, where you do not depend on money to define who you are and can become. Nor see money, as limitation of your creativity.
